EXTRACURRICULAR ENSEMBLES
JAZZ ENSEMBLE
The Westview Jazz Ensemble is an extension ensemble that begins as the fall marching band season comes to a close. Performing in the traditional big band jazz style, the ensemble has earned numerous honors throughout Southern California, including recognition at the Coronado Jazz Festival, Poway Jazz Festival, and Jazz at the Point Festival.
Musical excellence and professionalism are central to the ensemble’s success. Rehearsals are typically held before school at 7:00 a.m., two days per week. Sectional rehearsals may also be held at 4:00 p.m., biweekly.
The Jazz Ensemble regularly performs at the Winter GOLD Show, multiple spring jazz festivals, and the Spring GOLD Show. Membership is by audition, with audition materials drawn from the California All-State Jazz Band requirements. Audition videos are generally submitted near the end of marching season.
PEP BAND
Westview GOLD’s Pep Band promotes school spirit through performances at away football games and home basketball games.
Membership is initially drawn from volunteers within the Wind Ensemble, with additional auditions held shortly after the start of the school year to fill remaining instrumentation needs.
Personal maturity and character are just as important as musicianship when it comes to our Pep Band, as students are expected to support our Westview sports teams with pride, positivity, and a great attitude at all times.
